Hi there... my name is Merry Wynter, and I have a strange tale to
tell.
To start with... I own a castle.
Yup, you read it here first. I inherited an honest-to-goodness American
castle, and now I have to figure out what do do with it. Not too long ago I was
just going with the flow, living my topsy-turvy life in Manhattan. When I found
out about my inheritance I finally - after some stalling for reasons that are
too lengthy and complicated to speak of here - went to see it. Wow. It's huge!
And lonely, and breathtaking! And surrounded by enormous holes
big enough to lose an excavator in.
I have to put it out there... despite the hunky sheriff, Virgil Grace's implications, it really was not my fault that a body ended up at the bottom of one of those holes. How that all came about and the weird events following my journey to Autumn Vale (in upstate New York) to claim my inheritance and look it over are detailed in Bran New Death, coming in September.
So here and now I'll just tell you about my lifelong passion for... muffins!
Who doesn't love muffins? I love to bake them, and I love to eat them. I make them for friends, and sometimes even for strangers. When I was a little kid, it was something I could make with my Grandma while mom was at work. Grandma would make a couple dozen, and then her friends would arrive for tea and 'muffings', as I called them.
I'd be hard pressed to name a favorite, but banana walnut, pecan maple and carrot are certainly up there.
What about you... sweet or savory muffins, which are your favorite? I do
love cheddar muffins, with a big bowl of homemade soup.
Oh! And my other passion is collecting teapots and
teacups. I just love how they look and their utility. I have dozens in boxes in
storage in Manhattan, as well as boxes and boxes of teacups. There is just
something that seems right about tea and muffins, but that probably goes back
to my grandmother. I miss her so much.
Now... I really have to go. I have to get back to exploring the castle with my best friend, Shilo, and figuring out the mysteries left behind by my odd uncle, Melvyn Wynter. AND dealing with the strange folk of Autumn Vale, New York! Wish me luck.
In the meantime, have a look at these other American Castles!
